Test Suite
At OCLS, we offer a wide range of tests to
ensure you get the most accurate and reliable data possible. We use tried and trusted techniques using some of the latest
scientific equipment. Shown below is a list of the tests we can offer. If you aren't sure what tests
would be applicable to you, or if you require a test that isn't listed below, simply give us a call.
Tests 1 to 5 below are covered by our standard sample price. The remaining tests (from test 6 onwards) are optional depending on your application - give us a call for a personalised quote. For some background information on these tests, take a look at our Technical Information Pages.
1) Full spectrographic analysis of wear metals, oil additives, contaminants via ICP. Readings are given in parts per million (ppm). (ASTM D5185) 2) Total ferrous debris (FW/PQ), including large ferrous particles using a 51FW meter. The value obtained is a factor and has no units. 3) Viscosity at 40°C. The units are in Centistokes (cSt). (ASTM D445) NB. For viscosity values at temperatures other than 40°C, see test (15) below. 4) TIM (Total Insoluble Matter) given as '% insoluble'. Or infrared analysis of engine samples to monitor oil condition and degradation. Reported as '% allowable'. 5) Water analysis. Units can be as a percentage
or ppm. (ASTM D1744)
6) TAN (Total Acid Number). (IP177) 7) TBN Conductometrically (Total Base Number). (IP400) 8) Particle Counting to ISO 4406. 9) Coolant Analysis. Can include: ...........................................................Conductivity in microsiemens per centimetre (µS cm-1); ...........................................................Nitrite content in milligrams per litre (mg l-1); ...........................................................Glycol content as a percentage; ...........................................................Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in parts per million (ppm); ...........................................................Freezing Point in °C; ...........................................................pH; ...........................................................Visual observations. 10) Fuel Analysis (Bespoke analysis - give us a call). 11) Brake Fluid Analysis (Bespoke analysis - give us a call). 12) Grease
Analysis (Bespoke analysis - give us a call). 14) Thermography. 15) Viscosity at other temperatures other than the standard 40°C. Heavy Fuel Oil Analysis:
16) Ash Content to IP4. 17) Dean & Stark to IP74. 18) Catalyst fines to IP74.
The report includes a recommendation if needed. The recommendation is based on knowledge gathered from similar components and comes from many years experience in the world of oil analysis. Our standard report layout (click here to see an example sample report on our software page) is generally in a pdf format, and is sent via e-mail to facilitate a fast turnaround. Pdf files can be viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded on our software page. We also offer a dedicated programme to our customers that can be used to manage your hisotical data and equipment. Users of Oilcheck or Emerson software can import the data directly into their own databases which are created automatically. This ensures easy handling and management of data.
The kit prices include full analysis and return postage. Oil
